A holiday by the sea: top family-friendly spots in Europe

Summer is quickly approaching which means it is time to start planning and booking the perfect holiday. A family favourite destination of mine is certainly Europe, as it is jam packed with beautiful destinations and attractions perfect for family travel. From cobblestoned streets to sandy white beaches the below are a few family-friendly European destination suggestions.

Sicily, Italy
Boasting over 1500 km of coastline, Sicily is known for its extensive and varied beach destinations featuring deep colors and lovely coastal sceneries. Sicily is the perfect destination for a family friendly holiday by the sea as there are an endless number of beautiful beaches worth visiting. From Palermo to Catania, all Sicilian provinces open to the coast and there are also many islands and archipelagos to visit surrounding the island. In order to experience the perfect Sicilian atmosphere, it is recommended to take a look at the beautiful villas in Sicily by the sea for rent on websites such as Wishsicily. This option is great for families, enjoying the comfort of your own schedule and still getting that much needed time to relax.

Sicily, Italy
Costa Brava, Spain
Costa Brava is a family favorite as it offers the perfect destination to rest under the sun while enjoying everything from hotels, apartments and villas at affordable prices. Costa Brava also offers incredible experiences such as Hot Air Ballooning over beautiful landscapes. To enjoy some water sports, Platja d’Aro is the beach to visit to enjoy diving trips, kayaking and paddle boarding.

Croatia
Croatia is home to a very strong family culture and everyone is extremely welcoming and open towards visiting families. Croatia offers a wonderful range of fun activities suitable for the entire family, from water parks and swimming under waterfalls to relaxing on its stunning beaches and enjoying the crystal clear waters. While in Croatia discover Korcula, Trogir and the famous beaches on Hvar and Split. Visit the Plitvice Lakes and Krka National Park to enjoy unique experiences in these world renowned natural parks!

Algarve, Portugal
Offering a wonderful climate, pristine beaches and child friendly resorts, the Algarve is one of Europe’s beast family holiday destinations. Portugal offers a great level of services and care towards families especially ones with young children. An incredibly safe country, Portugal is a great choice for a hassle-free holiday. If travelling with younger kids, the calmer towns to visit are Alvor, Tavira, Praia da Luz and Carvoeiro. Meanwhile the central and western part of the Algarve encompasses waterparks, zoos and many exciting activities for older children. For a city break visit Lisbon and Porto and for a beach holiday visit Praia da Marinha, often ranked among the best beaches in Europe and Praia da Falesia, one of the longest and most beautiful beaches of the Algarve.

Malta
Sitting in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea and with its capital city Valletta being named both a UNESCO World Heritage Site and European Capital of Culture 2018, Malta is a perfect blend of tradition and modernity. Malta is home to sandy beaches and fascinating history as well as delicious food. Mellieha Bay and Golden Bay are two of the most popular sandy beaches in the archipelago and there are also countless secluded coves along the coastline perfect for more adventurous families. Its wide range of art galleries, museums and the quirky Toy Museum are perfect for families that wish to also explore the island.

  1. So many gorgeous coastal destinations. We love costa del sol but having a year in UK to save up for home improvements. Sad times 😬

  2. Wow, you've made me want to drop everything and run away to find the sunshine! Gorgeous destinations and photos. Croatia is very high on my list. My husband used to live near there and spent a bit of time there, he keeps going on about how lovely it is!
