Here's a photograph of the beautiful bandstand on Brighton seafront. See the sea in the distance? I included a similar photo back in February for a Silent Sunday post showing the winter light. This one in contrast shows clear blue skies and summer's beaming sun. I'm always fascinated by the intricate detail on the bandstand. I've read about the history only recently so thought I would share these facts! Did you know that the Brighton bandstand first opened in 1884? Bandstands were particularly common in the Victorian era and used by the local community to come together to listen to music and watch performances. The Brighton bandstand served the whole of Brighton and Hove up until the 1960s. However, after this it went into complete disrepair from a lack of maintenance. Luckily, in 2009, it was fully restored and opened to the public again. Today it's still used for concerts, salsa classes (I saw these the other day and have been meaning to look them up) and it's also become a popular venue for wedding shots or even the actual wedding ceremony! Fellow bloggers Lauren from Belle du Brighton and Emma from The Joy of Five both had wedding photographs taken there! It has a great view out to sea including the West Pier (sadly burnt down) a short distance away. Have you visited the Brighton bandstand? What do you think of it?
Such a beautiful landmark. This holds very special memories for me. That you for including me in your great post X
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, it's a beautiful spot :)
DeleteGreat pic! I've been to Brighton often but never noticed the bandstand - I'll have to check it out next time I'm there.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much, you should definitely visit when you're next here :)
DeleteLately, I have seen a lot of post about Brighton. However, it is the first time I see this bandstand. I has kind of an Arabesque air to me. I guess this area is a must visit during summer.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Ruth. Yes, it's true, lots of different architectural styles in Brighton. Have you been here? ;)
DeleteWhat a beautiful place. The architecture is so detailed and perfectly painted.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It's so beautifully detailed, they did a great job with the restoration :)
DeleteWhat a gorgeous photo. So vivid - a great combination of natural world with human elements. Breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Julie :)
DeleteWhat a beautiful photo! Calm and tranquil. Do they actually hold music performances there? I imagine that would be a great place to hear some music. Thank you for sharing with us for Photo Friday this week!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much. They do hold music performances here, although I've never seen one. I have seen salsa classes though! Great to link up with you, thanks :)
DeleteThey helped us put together a great menu, from the consultation to the tasting to the actual event. At wedding venue in Los Angeles they had biscuits and gravy, cornbread muffins, fried catfish, jambalaya, enormous pieces of fried chicken
ReplyDeleteI love it! I've even been to a dance class on there which was beautiful. I love catching a wedding on there, such a romantic setting. #brilliantblogposts
